Ranty post ahead. you’ve been warned.
Got cold called today by somebody whom I don’t know, asking if I would like to make an appointment to see her about some financial planning thing.
Ok coming from a family who has been in zee business for eons, I knew where she was coming from. But more importantly, who gave this woman my number?
“Oh, its oklar. Your friend gave me your number. But your friend requested that his/her name not be disclosed.”
Kanasai babi hutan. Thats the thing I hate most about cold callers. They don’t do a full and frank disclosure before even starting to yak away about what it is they purport to promote. I’m fine with ppl cold calling me because hey, everyone has to earn their livelihood. What I cannot and absolutely will not tolerate is if the person does not have the intention of telling me the truth and nothing but the truth.
So I changed my attitude completely and refused to hear whatever it is she had to say. If you got my number from my “friend” (if), then fine tell me who it is so that I will know whether you are telling me the truth or not.
Obviously she wasn’t honest because she thought I was based in a different division. If my “friend” did give her my number, my “friend” would know that I’m not based there.
And finally, the cold caller asked me if I was colleagues with some Ms xxx. Never heard of that person before.
So I say- before you cold call, get your facts right. And cliche as it may sound, honesty is always the best policy!
