Two things. First and foremost, I am deprived of Malaysian TV programmes. I tried to seek solace in Malaysian Dreamgirl, but unfortunately, I’d much rather be watching re-runs of Eastenders and Little Britain rather than watch the girls repeating the same thing day after day after day, week after week (“Yeah, I was like, very nervous LAH and wanted to pose like what the director told me to, etc” Tomatoes incident, jeans incident. Bunch of high school kids liddat). There is hardly any credibility in the show (heck, any competitions that rely on votes from public has not much credibility anyway).

Ok rant over and done with. Today, I want to share with you the blogs I read ever so often during my free time and trust me, they are truly live savers especially when you’re stressed (be it at work or looking for work hehe). Here they are, in random order:

The cooknengr

Eddie needs no introduction in this blog. Born in England, raised in Sarikei and then in the Penrissen region, and currently creating waves in the US and A, his style of writing transports you back to the good old days when we were all carefree kids without a worry in the heads. He has an eye for the tiniest of detail and that always cracks me up whenever he makes subtle comments on my blog on his observations. He is a guy with a heart of gold and I have had the privilege of meeting him twice in our beloved hometown. He diligently photographs his cooking, one passion of his, and shares his daily bites with all of us eager fans all over the globe through his blog. Pictures and videos are full of interesting stories to tell and his own story alone is good enough for a screenplay for the next Oscar nominated movie.

Reading his blog also gives me an opportunity to cure the imminent homesickness which hits from time to time. The “ngai tee”, “mosaiku” and other familiar local dialects which find their way into his blogs never fail to put a smile on my face.

As we know each other through our blogs, we discover that we have lots of mutual friends and acquaintances which of course makes this friendship and comradeship a lot stronger. May you always be the cooking engineer king!

Fish fish

The brainiest of the whole lot. Phd holder with a mole under her foot, Fish fish has treaded the terrains of Bangi, Japan and now, US and A. I loved her pictures so much during her days in Japan, and I always look forward to reading about her latest adventures. Now I am away from home, I can identify with her the homesickness and the oh so gratifying feeling to have a taste of home, be it improvised home cooked food or, in her case, mom imported over to recreate the homely dishes.

I had the privilege of meeting her in person almost 2 years ago, and she’s a really sweet person. She knows where the best food are (trust me, you cannot go wrong with someone of her profession *winks*) and her witty writing style is a joy to read. I do hope all goes well for you Fish fish, and keep us updated with your life in NC!

Dr Chen

This is one cool doctor that you cannot miss. I am constantly in awe of her profound knowledge in techie stuffs, and boy oh boy she takes breathtakingly beautiful pictures of anything and everything! A simple mandarin orange is immediately transformed into an A-list, celebrity magazine cover worthy gourmet delight under her magical lens. She shares her stories of her daily adventures with us and always leaves us in awe wondering how can a doctor’s life be that interesting? I daresay she could write a script for the Malaysian version of “Scrubs”.

Thank you Chen for always being so kind, friendly and humourous. Miss you loads!

Doreen (aka blackwidow)

The other Wong sibling who made it big in America. Before I met her this year, I did read her blog and was expecting a well toned, no nonsense kick ass professional woman. When we met during the blogger’s party this year, I was delighted to find that we had so much to talk about and boy, her designing skills are truly exemplary! She has strong opinions backed up with convincing reasons and I truly respect her for that. She came across as a very good listener, someone who was not afraid to assert her position and basically, oozes womanly appeal. This is the 21st century woman we are talking about. Like Eddie, she too engages in activities passionately such as travelling and kickboxing. I’m really glad I met her. If you are reading this Doreen, I am confident that you will shine like a star no matter where you go. Jia you!

Wilson

Wilson was one of the first bloggers I met in person, and basically, what you read in his blog is what he is essentially. No frills, no hidden agenda. Just the real Wilson. We went out several times on food and drink hunt and I can say that Wilson is someone who will put you at ease even when you have just met for a few times. He has a heart of gold and I can safely say that any girl who manages to win his heart is in for a good life ahead as he is, and I say this again, a very good guy. He has in recent months dedicated most of his pastime to charitable and religious activities, so girls, don’t let him go! Take care brother and see you soon.

Pink Cotton

Pink Cotton, pink cotton… I do have a baby sister I love very much, but Pink Cotton is exactly the type of sweet girl whom everyone wants to make their baby sister, to spoil and take care of her. She is funny, cute, kind, considerate, witty and writes with a flair which never fails to make me laugh whenever I pop by her blog. I will always remember her as my supporter when I advertised tickets for sale to a concert which I participated in. Of course there’s also my dear classmate redsponge who is going to be a mom very soon, and both of them are inseparable friends! :) I miss you loads. Stay strong, cute and post more about your adventures!

Irene

Now the first thing when I saw Malaysian Dreamgirl was… where is Irene? She should so have been in the Top 12 competing with the other girls (be it feigning Pseudo Aussie accents or Datin accents or Garang accents). Of mixed parentage, she has exotic looks which you would all agree with me. Go have a look at her blog.

Although we’ve only met twice, she strikes me as a strong girl with attitude. She’s proactive in turning her internet activities into profitable ventures, which I have to admit, have yet to master up to today. She’s confident which makes her very attractive, and boy, I have to read her blog with a full stomach or I’ll end up being very very hungry! Her footsteps have covered almost every reputable eating establishment in Kuching, and even KL and wherever she sets foot on. Because of Irene, I also had the opportunity of meeting up with Sue, a Kuchingnite currently residing in the US who reads our blogs! Her style of writing is diverse– it can be factual, emotional, hilarious etc. A daily dose for general well being is a must.

Irene, if you’re reading this, I hope you’re keeping well and keep the pictures coming! :)

Last but not least, there is my little sister’s blog which for privacy reasons, I will not disclose here. This girl has an awesome writing style which I love. The greatest thing about her is that we are both so different, we embrace each other’s virtues, diversities, flaws and as she grows older, I just love her a lot more. Despite our age gap she sometimes kicks more sense into me than I do to her. :) She is the baby of the family whom I miss a lot!

Now there you have it. Even Sazzy Falak couldn’t come up with this I think. And Malaysian Dreamgirls, in the eyes of a Haggis Eating Kuching Ex-pat, is plain bollocks and I can’t wait for it to be over so that parents won’t have to cry foul over their escalating mobile phone bills this month. Sorry to the producers, but I have yet to see an episode which could catch my attention for more than 3 minutes.

The rambling continues

The small city miracle has been rambling in London for over a year! After she got hitched in spring 2009, She continues to ramble on matters revolving around her, including music, food and drink, books and of course her ongoing quest to make it big in the land of fish and chips!
