Yummy snack-Avocado slices on toast
April 21, 2008 by miracle8
I was craving for something refreshing as a snack last weekend. Imagine my delight when I saw ripened avocadoes for sale at half price at Portobello Market, Notting Hill Gate last Saturday! Its a pity I only got two (as I was worried that they might not last very long due to its price), but they tasted really good!
The original plan was to make some guacamole for us to dip our crisp ryebreads in, but I decided against it and sliced the avocadoes instead. The results? Simply divine.
Health alert: Avocadoes are high in cholestrol so try not to eat it too often.
Avocadoes can be high in fat (thanks Suzanna for the info)
Cut the avocadoes into half and remove the pit. Slice the avocadoes with the skin on and peel them off. Lay on a serving plate and drizzle with the juice of half a lemon, ground black pepper, garlic granules, a dash of sea salt and serve. Tomatoes are optional.
Or, you could serve on a french toast like this:
Armed with a good DVD and you’re all set for a relaxing night in.

I love avocado and was just enjoying some smushed on toast. Just a small correction: avocados have no cholesterol, because plants don’t contain cholesterol–only animals do. But they are high in fat, so if you’re watching your weight, you do have to limit your intake. Interestingly, the kind of fat in avocados may help lower your LDL (lousy) and total cholesterol, and raise your HDL (happy) cholesterol. As for me, I just wish they weren’t so expensive where I live.
Thanks Suzana! They’re not cheap either in London- I try to get them at the markets where possible. Supermarket avocadoes are hardly ripened enough.
Oh and thanks for dropping by too!
