What a foodful weekend! (pun intended).
My ongoing quest to recreate dishes from home, in my tiny humble kitchen somewhere in London continues. I think I get inspired in waves- there can be weeks where I am whipping up dishes to no end, resulting in a huge wave of food related posts. And then I calm down and concentrate my energy on other more important things in life, and my blog becomes very philosophical and wordy. I used to get quite annoyed with myself because I can’t seem to settle down on blogging on one topic. Which doesn’t really help when I am trying to categorize myself as a particular type of blogger. I just tend to write on different topics depending on the wave I am surfing on.
Anyway, enough of my weekend rant. Here are some lovely photos I took of my foodcapade, starting with London’s Borough Market, all the way down to Croydon for some authentic Malaysian fare.
You ready?
Pate Moi- Mushroom Pate to die for. Absolutely delicious spread on crackers, bread or on just about anything!
Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting… yumm
Moving on, here’s version number 2 of my attempt at recreating the famous Malaysian dish- Mee Hoon Kueh or better known as Flour Slice Soup, this time with the deep fried anchovies:
We made the “epic” journey this morning to East Croydon to try out a Malaysian cafeteria known as Uncle Lim’s kitchen. In particular, I was craving for some good Hainanese chicken rice. Thankfully the trip was worth it and we licked our plates clean.
Ladies and gentlemen, the real deal- Hainanese Chicken Rice served with cucumber slices, smooth chicken pieces and also amazingly freshly blitzed chili sauce (not in the photograph).
Here’s the address of this gem of an establishment:
Uncle Lim’s Kitchen
Whitgift CentreĀ East Croydon, Croydon CR0 1LPĀ - 020 8688 8378
They also serve an array of Malaysian home cooked dishes, no waiting time required. Perfect when you need something on the go!

Oh, I really shouldn’t be reading your this post late at night when I am feeling hungry. The pictures made me hungrier. How much did the chicken rice cost in GBP?
Same here, now I need some food! Lovely pictures as always and some really interesting dishes. I so wish I lived nearer to London so I could try out these restaurants.
