Welcome to our gardening page. Unwilling to succumb to the limited amount of space that we have in our nest, Arch and I decided to start our own herb garden in the kitchen. I believe where there is a will, there is a way and this page commemorates the beginning of our venture. Hopefully our herbs will benefit from our tender loving care and live long and prosper! Say hello to our new friends in the kitchen:

Date: 25th May 2009.
L-R: Moroccon mint, Rosemary and Basil. Arch helped me repot the plants. We used multipurpose compost and the rectangular pot is from Wilkinson.
Also bought a pack of slow release liquid fertiliser. Hope they grow well!
Update: Week 3

Date: 4th June 09
Notes: Moroccon mint is growing well. Basil and rosemary is growing too, but not as fast as I had hoped they would. Stuck a sprouting onion in the soil just for fun a few days ago. Guess what? Its growing at lightning speed! >.<

Bought a pot of cinnamon basil from the Strawberry Fair at Cambridge a week ago. I loved the smell so much I was literally sniffing on the leaves for the entire train journey!
Unfortunately, the roots of the spring onion were damaged when we tried to re-pot it. So its going to end up in my lunchbox tomorrow.

Moroccon mint is growing really well. After repotting the cinnamon basil, significant improvement was noted and now its growing very well. The regular basil is doing alright. Rosemary is growing quite slowly, but I am in no hurry to harvest it. Getting all the plants well established and growing comfortably in the pot is my priority for now.

As you can see, the Moroccon mint and cinnamon basil are growing wild. Rosemary seems unfazed by it all and remains its usual self. Regular basil seems a bit overwhelmed by the expansion of his neighbours.
And here’s something I want to share with you all-my father gave me some seeds from his plant, when I first moved to London. I didn’t plant them due to the cold weather. As it has been really warm lately, I thought I’d sow the seeds and see what happens.
Lo and behold, a few days later, this happened:

Date: 9 July 2009
I hope its the germination of the seeds I sowed and not just some random weed growing wild.
Very excited!

Moroccon mint blooms…

Date: 27 July 2009
Moroccan mint flowers in full bloom! The leaves aren’t doing too well, some kind of pest is making them sick. Will have to think of a remedy to save them.

Almost two months on, the cinnamon basil has not disappointed us- look at the beautiful flowers!

Three weeks on, my imported seeds
have grown really well, watered twice daily, I hope they will grow up big and strong!
